Can rabbits eat melon? Rabbits can eat melon at 1 tablespoon for 2 pounds weight twice a week. It is rich in beta-carotene, antioxidants, phosphorous, potassium, and vitamins.

Melons are certainly safe but need proper care from rabbit owners. Otherwise, it can be hectic for them. In this post, I will detail serving tips, melon forms, and perfect quantities for each form.

Is melon safe for rabbits?

Melon is absolutely safe for rabbits when you give the prescribed portion of 2 servings per week with 1 tablespoon for 2 pounds of body weight. It also improves their overall health. Melon is unsafe for rabbits below 7 months old.

If your rabbit is overweight, then melon should not be given as a treat but rather should replace one of their normal meals. For example, if you feed your rabbit 1/4 cup of pellets per day, you could replace that with 1/8 cup of pellets and 2 tablespoons of watermelon.

Watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe are all good choices for rabbits. Seedless watermelon is the best option since the seeds can cause an upset stomach in rabbits. Remove the rind and any excess sugar before feeding your rabbit.

Offer only a small amount of melon at first to see how your rabbit reacts, and increase the amount gradually. Some rabbits may be unable to tolerate melon due to its high sugar content. Watch for any signs of digestive upset, such as diarrhea, and consult your veterinarian if you have concerns.

Watermelon is not only a good source of hydration for rabbits but also provides vitamins A, C, and B6. These vitamins are essential for a rabbit’s diet and help keep their immune system strong. Melon also contains fiber which aids in digestion. Overall, melon is a healthy treat that you can feel good about giving to your rabbit!

Meanwhile, you should not stop giving them hay as their regular diet routines. It will affect the digestive system. And lastly, keep a close watch on their water intake to make sure they are consuming enough fluids.
